As in most countries, summer is the time that many events happen in New Zealand. In fact New Zealand is jam packed with weekend activities, festivals, concerts, markets, sporting events and community celebrations. Below we highlight some of these, but a great place for finding events around the country is the fantastic website Event Finder.
We list them from the top of the North Island to the bottom of the South Island.
30th and 31st December 2014
Held in Mangawhai, north of Auckland, the ‘bass’ festival features musicians from New Zealand and other parts of the world. The very popular New Zealand band, Fat Freddys Drop will be performing.
Off The Radar
5th to 8th Feb 2015
Off the Radar offers a huge variety of both music and arts together. Held near Auckland, artists perform from both across New Zealand and around the world, including indie, drum & bass, blues, punk and electronica.
Highlife – New Years Eve
31st December 2014
Held on the beautiful Stonyridge Vineyard, this huge party will feature international and local DJ’s as well as a fireworks display to see in the New Year.
St Jerome’s Laneway Festival
26th January 2015
Featuring Angus & Julia Stone, Belle & Sebastian, Banks and Conan Mockasin, this popular music festival is held in central Auckland
20th to 22nd Feb 2015
Tapapakanga Regional Park
This three day camping festival has its own wedding chapel and is aiming to become a zero waste festival. There is an impressive line up of performers from New Zealand and around the world.

This music and arts festival has predominantly Indie bands.

Sundaise is a family friendly event that offers live music, arts, sustainability and workshops.
Papamoa New Years Eve
There are tickets for 1,000 people to attend this event at the local Papamoa Tavern. A number of DJ’s will see in the New Year.
Rhythm and Vines
29th to 31st December
Around 25,000 people attend this annual music festival, that has around 70 local and international music acts. It is held in a vineyard just out of the city.
13th to 15th March 2015
The World of Music and Dance festival is held in a picturesque park in New Plymouth in March each year. It showcases a range of both local and international acts. There are workshops, great food and a fantastic atmosphere. Many people camp in tents, campervans or stay in local accommodation in the city of New Plymouth.
29th January to 1st February 2015
Wanderlust festivals are held over the world and celebrates the mind, body and soul. It brings together yoga, performers, chefs, music and speakers.
7th March 2015
This extremely popular New Zealand music festival is held on the Wellington waterfront annually. There are over 7 stages and close to 60 bands and DJ’s performing.
Misty Mountain Hop Music Festival
22nd March 2015
This one day festival showcases a range of music from the 60’s to modern day. Both rock music and drum and bass will be showcased from a range of acts.
28th January to 1st February 2015
Luminate offers a range of live and electronic music from both international and local acts. As well as music there is also a range of visual arts performers and workshops, even a circus space.
Marlborough Wine & Food Festival
14th Feb 2015
This extremely popular festival is held in New Zealand’s largest wine producing region at the top of the South Island. Along with fantastic wine there are seminars and cooking demonstrations.
Kaikoura Summer Sounds
17th to 18th January 2015
Funk, blues, reggae and dance music is on offer for two days in the beautiful seaside town of Kaikoura.

Held over three days this Central Otago music festival has over 40 live bands performing.
Bannockburn Music Festival

Rhythm and Alps

There are tickets for a maximum of 10,000 people to attend this festival in the Cardrona Valley. A selection of local and international artists will be performing.
