Many of you will in familiar with Willing Workers On Organic Farms (WWOOFing), but if you are not, then a membership booklet could be a handy thing to have with you while you travel around New Zealand.
What WWOOFing offers is the opportunity to spend time on organic farms located in all parts of the country. In exchange for your labour (working on the farm usually for 2 to 4 hours a day), you get your meals and accommodation provided. Sometimes you might stay on the farm for 1 night or up to a few months. You might get private accommodation and internet access or you might be staying in a remote property with no cell phone coverage. Every farm is a little different.
Membership can be purchased directly on the WWOOF website, or from a number of stockists. As of the end of 2012 the membership cost was $40 with an extra $10 for a printed book.
What WWOOFing can provide you with is the opportunity to stay with locals and experience a different way of life to what you might otherwise.
Once you have a membership you can login to the online membership portal and view farms and see what other travellers are saying about their experiences.
